Public Event: Partial Solar Eclipse @ LFOP
The Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium will be open beginning at 1:00pm EDT on Monday, August 21, 2017 for the partial solar eclipse that will be visible on that day. The partial eclipse begins at 1:25p in New Haven and ends at 4:00p. The sun will be 68% covered at the midpoint of the eclipse, which is 2:45pm.
The event offers observing through solar telescopes and eclipse glasses (available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last), as well as a live video feed of the total solar eclipse from various sources including the exploratorium, NASA, and Slooh.
All interested in viewing the solar eclipse should please read the following article about how to view the solar eclipse safely: https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety
No reservation is required. Please note that we expect a large volume of people at this event and access to solar telescopes and parking may be limited. We will have eclipse glasses on hand, as well as trees on the lawn with which to watch the eclipse through a pinhole.
