Large astronomical surveys are becoming increasingly important for astronomy in general and exoplanet science. The combination of large data sets, highly parallel computing environments, and advanced statistical methodology presents numerous opportunities both for exoplanet science and astronomy more generally. I will present example applications of astroinformatics, such as exoplanet population inference and planet hunting via extremely precise Doppler spectroscopy. A modern astroinformatics toolbox is also valuable for applications beyond academia. I will discuss some of the shared numerical tools and point out important differences between typical astronomical applications and data science applications in industry. Finally, I will present the case for how astronomy can become a role model for “big data” research and education.
