Thinking Differently about Difference: Inclusive Teaching in the Physical Sciences
Event description:
There is steadily increasing recognition that the “standard” pedagogies in physical sciences do not serve students of differing backgrounds or identities equally well. Aside from doing a better job of supporting engagement with our subject matter for all students, being more inclusive in how we teach raises the motivation for students to take control of their learning and draw connections to their own lives in ways that benefit them long after they leave our classes. This talk introduces a framework for inclusive teaching for physical sciences based on educational research and past experience.
