Talk Title:
How Much Does Dark Matter Influence Galaxy Formation?
Event description:
In my talk I will detail efforts toward answering that question, including new probes of the connection between galaxies and dark matter halos. I will focus first on galaxy bimodality and ask whether the dark sector influences the processes of galaxy quenching, then look separately at star-forming and quiescent galaxies and whether their properties correlate with the properties of their host halos. Depending on which question you ask, the influence of dark matter can be either surprisingly low or surprisingly high. All of these results will come statistically from large redshift surveys like the SDSS.
